OUTLOOK 2007 SEARCH PROBLEM

October 2, 2007 · Filed Under General

After months of wondering why the new Search function in outlook 2007 doesn’t work on my Vista machine, I came across this solutions which appears to work.  I’m not exactly sure why it works, but whatever, it’s better then my alternative which was to use my Outlook 2003/XP machine to search for my emails.

To ‘enable’ the search to work in 2007, Go to the Control Panel, Indexing Service, Uncheck ‘Microsoft Outlook’ (Yup, that’s right, uncheck it) and then exit out.  Re-enter Outlook, and search will function again.  I’m guessing this turns off the Windows Desktop Search function and forces outlook to use it’s internal search.  Not sure.
